Afternoon Ritual black tea from Sri Lanka
This tea is a pure beauty. Not so often do black tea leaves offer so much life in appearance. Chinese black teas might be an exclusion, but with Ceylon or Indian teas we are usually aware of only not-far-from-ordinary leaves available. Afternoon Ritual black tea from Sri Lanka is definitely very different from the rest. Sophisticated, live small uni-sized leaves with lot of white tips, which look almost alive. Sharp and small, but so beautiful. Dark grey, only a bit greenish in color, a real beauty to look at. They come from Ratnapura, Vithanakanda Estate and belong to a mid-grown category of Sri Lankan teas.
They have a deep deep beautiful lively scent, of dark chocolate and honey with subdued fresh note. This is so far the most beautiful Sri Lankan tea I have ever seen. I know, I’ve already said that. Leaves look as they might become alive just in front of your eyes.
As suggested by the vendor, 85 degrees Celsius, 4,5,7 minutes, 2.5 grams of tea and 150 ml of water.
After the first steeping, whole space is filled with scent, mild, and fresh, gentle and sophisticated, but with pure and strong intentions. Color is very live, beautiful cooper-red. It’s very fresh, light, but strong, with tiny astringency that is turning into sweet delight after drinking. It’s quite open in the end, like there is an opportunity for some other flavor experience, but it forgets to turn up. It does, however, fit very well with the appearance of the leaves, playful and light. All steepings were alike, light, delicate, with strong intentions, but very far from full-bodied morning black teas. Used leaves smell incredibly fresh, very much like pear and honey combined, with warm brown live color.
Afternoon Ritual black tea from Sri Lanka is definitely is a good afternoon tea. Everything is very much lively in this tea, a good choice for an afternoon tea.
